Cut & Fold
Cut two strands of cord at 60–80 cm and fold them in half. The folded loop sets the body length of your keychain.
02
Attach Ring
Attach the folded loop to the key ring (D-ring or round ring) with a Lark's Head hitch.
03
Weave
Repeat the same Cobra Knot used for the bracelet. Two colours produce a clean two-tone pattern.
04
Lock & Trim
Lock the final knot at your target length (usually 8–10 cm), trim the excess, and melt the ends with a lighter.
FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How much cord does a keychain take?
- For an 8–10 cm cobra weave body, 60–80 cm per colour is enough, so 1.2–1.6 m in total for a two-tone build. A longer body or a double weave needs proportionally more.
- How do I make it two-tone?
- Either melt-join the ends of two colours into one strand, or fold each colour in half and hang both from the ring with a lark's head. In a cobra weave each side cord forms one face of the body, so the two colours separate naturally.
- Which ring should I use?
- A 25–30 mm round ring or D-ring suits keys and bag zippers. The hardware in the kit works as-is. If you plan to clip it to a carabiner, leave the top loop a little longer.
- How is it different from the bracelet?
- Same knot, different length and end treatment. A bracelet has a buckle on both ends and is sized to your wrist; a keychain hangs from a ring on one end and finishes short. If you have made the bracelet, the keychain takes about half the time.
- The keychain loosens or the knots slip.
- The key is locking the final knot, then melting the tips and pressing them onto the body. A melted end that sticks out past the knot can work loose with use, so tuck it under the last knot before sealing.
